What is Ozempic (Semaglutide) injection?
Ozempic (Semaglutide) is a prescription only GLP-1 receptor agonist - off-license weight loss injection, produced by Novo Nordisk. It is prescribed for Type 2 diabetes. Off-license it may be prescribed for obesity or those who are overweight and seeking weight loss with a health-related condition (such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol) and have not achieved significant weight loss through diet and exercise alone.
What is the difference between Ozempic and Wegovy injection?
Ozempic (semaglutide) is primarily prescribed for type 2 diabetes management, helping regulate blood sugar levels whilst also promoting weight loss as a secondary benefit. Wegovy (semaglutide) is specifically approved for weight loss, with higher dosages (Wegovy 1.7mg & Wegovy 2.4 mg per week). Whereas Ozempic is typically prescribed up to max Ozempic 1mg per week for diabetes.
